There are many interesting villages and towns scattered all over the northern region of Skyros. One of the most popular holiday destinations on the island is the beautiful resort of Magazia.
The golden sandy beach of Magazia stretches along the coast, and joins with that of the neighbouring resort of Molos to the north. Magazia is a resort that is well developed for tourism, though this has not changed the traditional look and apperance of the place.
Magazia is a maze of small winding streets that pass by houses and colourful gardens. The village is a very pretty and charming one, and the Perigiali Hotel is located just a short walk from the beach.
The name "Magazia" is said to come from the gunpowder magazines that were once stored here during time of the Venetians.
The small chapel of Agios Georgios is well worth visiting if you have the chance. This picturesque chapel houses an impressive collection of religious icons. This chapel is located in the Perasmata area of Magazia.
Magazia is an excellent base for visitors to Skyros. From here you can easily visit the many other interesting villages and resorts on the island. To the north you will find the unique area of Pouria and the lovely Gyrismata beach. To the south of Magazia are the towns of Chora, Aspous and the port of Linaria.
